If you’re heading to the Big Apple there’s bound to be plenty on your to-do list. From Central Park to the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State building, New York is renowned for a number of fantastic attractions, yet more and more people descent on the world’s most famous with another purpose in mind – shopping! New York certainly isn’t short of retail outlets to challenge your bank balance, so check out our guide to some of the city’s best shopping venues.

Times Square

The big screen, the decorations, the huge crowds… we’ve all seen Times Square in the movies and serious shoppers should definitely make it their first stop for a spot of retail therapy. Fashionistas can splash their cash at the likes of Forever 21, American Eagle and Levi’s while beauty addicts should head to MAC, Bare Escentuals, Sephora and L’Occitane. There’s also a great selection of speciality shops including the Disney Store, M&M’s World and Hello Kitty’s Sanrio Store – perfect for picking up gifts and souvenirs!

Toys “R” Us

Boasting the very apt title of The World’s Greatest Toy Store®, the company’s flagship store on Times Square attracts hundreds of thousands of kids (and big kids every) year! The 110,000 square feet store is positively brimming with toys and videogames and boasts a whole host of unique displays that will enchant shoppers of all ages. Take a ride on the 60-foot Ferris wheel, marvel at the life-sized T-Rex or make yourself t home in the 4,000 square-foot Barbie® dollhouse.

It’s the world’s biggest department store and a registered New York landmark, and inside you’ll find a treasure trove of goods with nine floors of everything from beauty products to dinnerware and designer fashion. Thousands of tourists descend on this iconic landmark every day and it’s a great place to pick up luxurious chocolates and other mementos of your trip.

Tiffany & Co.

Long before Audrey Hepburn starred in the classic film, Tiffany & Co. has been the world’s most famous jeweller, loved by millions since 1837. Drop a subtle hint and take the elevator to the second floor where you’ll find a jaw-dropping selection of engagement rings or head to the fourth floor where brides-to-be will find a whole host of upmarket wedding invitations and party favours. If you are thinking of splashing your cash you should book flights to New York online to get the best deal and save yourself some cash. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, after all.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Since it opened in 1924, Saks Fifth Avenue has been the epitome of luxury and style and occupies an entire city block opposite the Rockefeller Centre. Treat yourself to the likes of Chanel, Escada and Louis Vuitton available in the elegant boutiques or head to the fifth floor where you’ll find less extravagant and less pricey designer gear from Marc Jacobs and Juicy Couture.  If you’ve worked up an appetite after all that shopping, head to the 8th floor and indulge in a spot of lunch at the stylish Café SFA.
